Gemma Stevens won her second five star eventing competition on her home bred 16-year-old CHILLI KNIGHT, out of her first championship horse KINGS GEM and sired by the legendary CHILLI MORNING.
They stormed this year’s Burghley, staying on their dressage score throughout, the only combination to do so.
Their first 5* success was at the “Bicton Five Star” which took the place of Burghley as we emerged from the COVID epidemic in 2021, so you could be forgiven for not remembering it as clearly as a win at one of the other “big Bs”. This time the prize money was £120,000 as opposed to £40,000.
At Bicton Stevens shared the podium with Piggy March and Pippa Funnell and this week at Burghley it was another all-female podium, reinforcing Equestrianism’s place as the ultimate gender-irrelevant sport.
Katie Magee and TREWORRA moved up from 19th place after the dressage phase to take second place (£66,000) while US visitor Caroline Pamukcu and HSH BLAKE advanced from 5th after the first phase to take third (£50,000).
