Taught around you

The equine photography course gives you everything I’ve written down. Mentoring gives you me – one to one, looking at your own photographs and your own progress, shaped entirely to where you are.

It’s for anyone. A complete beginner who wants to start the right way, or a capable photographer who can’t work out why their images aren’t quite landing. I meet you where you are and take you forward.

Because here’s the thing most mentors won’t say: half of the business of taking better pictures is learning to see why the others aren’t as good. That’s what these sessions train – your eye, not just your settings.

And the equine part is where the real skill lies. Anyone can learn to use a camera. Timing a horse, reading a discipline, knowing what happens next – that takes someone who’s been in the field (literally) for a very long time.

I've photographed every equine discipline for brands, riders and the national press for twenty years, with more than seventy book and magazine cover credits and a place on the event team at Burghley, Bramham, Dublin Horse Show, The Royal Welsh Show and many more.
Plenty of people can teach you how to use a camera. Very few can teach you the horse — the timing, the events, the instinct for what's about to happen. That's what you're really paying for, and it's the part that takes a career to learn.
Before you ask

Common questions

Do I need to be at a certain level?
No. It's tailored to you — complete beginners are welcome, and so are photographers who already sell work but want to sharpen up. I pitch it to wherever you are.
What equipment do I need?
Whatever you already own. Part of the point is getting more out of your own kit rather than telling you to spend money. Bring what you've got and we'll work with it.
How are the sessions delivered?
Calls and critiques are over Zoom, with me talking over your images on screen — so it works wherever you are in the country. Workshop days are in person.
Why only four places?
So it stays genuinely personal, and so I can fit it properly around my shooting calendar. When the places are full, they're full.
