This year’s Cottesmore Scurry and Foxhunters will take place on Saturday 4th October.
Parking for both races is in a field entered from ///encloses.reshaping.quilt
The Cottesmore Scurry 2025, sponsored by The Fox & Hounds, Knossington
The start of the Scurry is at approximately ///windpipe.vitamins.damp, just South of Wilson’s.
To walk the course you are advised to park near the radio mast where there is a lane accessed from ///dried.strides.satellite with space to park off-road. From there walk South across two fields, go through the gate at the bottom of the hill and then walk South-East to the starting field.

The course starts in a southerly direction, uphill, over fence 1 and then straight on to fence 2.

The course then turns right, in a Westerly direction towards Fence 3 and the first marker.

After Fence 3 the course turns right again, now Northerly, towards the radio mast.

It continues straight after Fence 4, downhill towards Fence 5, then turning left to Fence 6.

Continue straight after Fence 6, towards Orton Park Wood and Fences 7, 8 and 9.

On the South side of Orton Park Wood there is some freshly ploughed ground so it is imperative that you stick to the headland left for the race. Anybody seen leaving hoof prints in the seeded ground will be disqualified.

At the end of the wood the course bends round to the right over Fence 10.

Then on to Fence 11, downhill.

After Fence 11 keep going in a straight line, downhill, to Fence 12 which is about half way round.

After turning left at Fence 12 the course goes straight on to Fence 13, where there is another left-hand marker.

Then turn left again, Southwards, to Fence 14.

Then turn right, towards Fence 15 which has a right-hand marker in it, red for the Scurry is in a different place from the blue for the Foxhunters.

Now head straight on to Fence 16 and 17 where there are markers for both courses.

After turning South for Fences 16 and 17 the course continues Westwards to Fence 18 where there is a left-hand marker at the downhill end.

The course then turns South to Fences 19 and 20, the latter with right-hand markers.

After Fence 20 the course turns right, uphill, to Fence 21.

Fence 22 takes the course back Southwards for the last time.

Then round to the right to Fence 23.

For those who know Cottesmore Tuesday country you will now turn right to go up the East side of Puss’s Bushes, via Fences 24 (with a right-hand marker) and 25.

Turning uphill , we approach Fence 26.

And finally Fence 27, to finish.

The Cottesmore Foxhunters 2025, sponsored by Ryder Premier Equestrian
The Foxhunters course starts near ///family.smudges.storeroom, in a Westerly direction.

The course then heads West over Fence 2, where there is a left-hand marker

Then turn left towards Fence 3.

The course then heads right to Fence 4 which has a marker. The course distance was wheeled over the hedge where the red Scurry marker is, so if you choose to go through the gateway you are covering a shorter distance.

The course then heads across the next field to this double at Fences 5 & 6.

Turn right and head for Fence 7.

Then we turn South to Fence 8 and 9.

After Fence 9 turn right and head uphill to Fence 10.

The course now separates from the Scurry course and heads slightly right, uphill to an open gate, after which there is a large crater in the ground which should be avoided.

The course now heads down to the bottom of the hill and up the other side.

The first half of the Bleak House loop brings you right to left across the hedge on the far right of this image, where there is a left-hand marker, then across the field below the house, and across the hedge on the far left of this image. The course then heads to the bottom of the hill again to a set of rails where there is another left-hand marker.

Jumping the hedge in the previous images brings us to the point where the courses merge again.
